The Royal Canadian Mint has provided each member of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic teams with a Lucky Loonie as their own personal good luck charm. At the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002, a loonie brought a stroke of good fortune to Canada when our men's and women's hockey teams skated to victory over a Lucky Loonie buried secretly beneath centre ice. Spy Coin Poppy Quarter from 2004 is still called the odd-looking Canadian quarter with a bright red flower. It was the culprit behind a false espionage warning from the US Defense Department about mysterious coins with radio frequency transmitters This coin was distributed by Tim Hortons. Great Canuck gift!

Sockeye salmon fillet, marinated and then alder smoked. Seven Seas uses only wild Pacific salmon, caught in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. It uses no artificial preservatives or additives.
Sockeye salmon makes one of the best eating fishes in the world, but it is often served quite hideously tarted up by an intrusive chef who has applied scales made of sugar paste.
The Salish are a people who live, among other places, on the southern part of Vancouver Island and some surrounding islets. Sockeye is the English version of the Coast Salish an apt name for this frisky Pacific salmon. Or, it may derive directly from Northern Straits Salish seqey red fish.

Wild Sockeye salmon spawn mostly in streams having lakes in their watershed. The young fry spend from zero to three years in the freshwaterlake before migrating to the ocean, some stay in the lake and do not migrate to the sea. The fish that migrate spend from one to four years in the salt water, and thus are four to six years old when they return to spawn in autumn
-
Prior to spawning the sockeye are blue tinged with silver in color during their ocean life. The males develop a hump on their back and their jaw and teeth become hooked when they move from salt to fresh water. Males and females both turn red with green heads
-
No artificial preservatives or additives
-
Sockeye Salmon, unlike the other species of Pacific Salmon, feed almost exclusively on plankton. this diet is the reason for the striking hue of their flesh as well as their very low concentration of methyl mercury. They also tend to feed on small aquatic organisms such as shrimp.
-
When smoked Sockeye has a stronger flavour and firmer texture
